DESSINER LA PAIX is a collection of thoughts, ideas and initiatives. It raises awareness of what peace is and can be, and of how much it depends on each and everyone of us.
The shown artworks exploit caricature, paradox, provocation and other devices; all of them stage different peace initiatives and display at the same time their limits, to demonstrate the fragility of the idea of peace both in the past and today.
.
In 2016 the Austrian Cultural Forum asked me, to bring an Austrian exhibition on the dove of peace to Amiens for 2018 – the centenary of the end of WWI: The show called Drawing for Peace (2014) had been assembled by the Museum of Caricature in Krems. In Amiens I found an excellent partner in Amiens Métropole, who integrated the show into its program Amiens, another perspective on the Great War.
I completely revisited the initial collection, and enlarged it with 40 artworks dating from 1899 to 2018. To put the question of peace in a broader context, I initiated collaborations with two related institutions in Amiens: The RENDEZ-VOUS DE LA BANDE DESSINÉE d’Amiens (a festival for Comic Art organised by the association On a Marché sur la Bulle) and ESAD (École supérieure d’Art et de Design – University for Art and Design).
The scenography (sofas, newspapers, fresh coffee) evokes the ambience of a Viennese café and invites you to take a break: The CIAP (Centre d’Interprétation de l’Architecture et du Patrimoine) became a place encouraging encounters and conversations.
