This is an adaptation of "Sinbad the Sailor" from "1001 Nights" for kids: Scheherazade arrives at the King's Palace to spend the night with him, she starts to tell the story of Sinbad. The palace thus transforms into different backgrounds of the plot, the King becomes Sinbad who lives through the different tales.
This play toured through Austria after the premiere, but the actors and musicians had no technicians to set up the scenery for them. We developed a simple puzzle set, that could be easily put together and transported with a small van. The background could be rolled up, we fixed drawings of the different sceneries to it, using rope-lights, which were turned off and on during the plot. We provided a foot-operated switch that was triggered by one musician, the changes being marked on the score.
