himmelrot - zitronenblau
07. an exhibition on colours for kids aged 6-13
] zoom kindermuseum, MQ vienna:
For the exhibition "sky-red and lemon-blue" I transformed the museum space into a white-coloured funfair, where 10 different attractions presented different aspects of colour in a very playful and interactive way:
In the ENTRÉE they learned that colour is depending on light, and that in certain light situations we can see no colours at all (when turning on an orange lamp all the balls seemed to have different shades of grey). The QUIZZY explained colours and their connotations in different cultures (white for marriage, black for grieving, red for love, ...), the MIRAKULOSUM invited the kids to become alchemists and explore colour under the microscope (butterfly wings !) or produce colours themselves (squash insects and mix the powder with oil to fix the pigments).
At the SPECTACOLO, we made them experience colour effects (different shades, contrast, colour perspective, ...), in the FISCHODROM they were slipping into costumes to dive into an underwater world (colours to blend in / hide or to stand out / signalise). The LUXOMBRIA showed how light-colours react when being mixed and that shadow can also be colourful, the COLORAMA invited them to listen to different sounds that evoked the feeling of a certain colour, while they were able to "paint" the walls according to their senses.
