« History hunters, treasure hunters, archeology and comics » is a book that questions the different sources of archaeological inspiration for comic book authors.
It takes a fresh look at the reality of the archaeologist’s profession, the archaeological collections of the Musée de Picardie but also at archeological sites in Amiens.>>
The dual show was created for the 25th Rendez-Vous de la Bande Dessinée d’Amiens,
a comic festival created by the association On a Marché sur la Bulle.
It was housed in an abandoned rail depot from the 1920ies, and in the freshly renovated classicist Musée de Picardie – a challenging contrast for the scenography.
At the -Halle Freyssinet- I had to reuse an existing exhibition space, defined by some curved and straight walls. By adapting the wall’s outlines to make them look derelict, adding a leaning tower in it’s center, and painting a grid pattern to the floor, I transformed the lot into an “archeological site”. The showcases were scattered “pieces” of the surrounding walls.
The collection alongside the wall was arranged historically, the tower showed a “timeless” works dedicated to the Tower of Babel on its outside, and drawings from archeologists inside.
The -Musée de Picardie- didn’t provide a closed-off area, but asked me to inscribe the exhibition into 13 interstices of the existing archeological and art collections over two floors. All of them were different in size, orientation and approach, some needed constructive adaptions, some rearrangements, some had never been open to public before ..
I created a scenography that merged with existing showcases, I wanted to hide the exhibition in the museum, and only marked with pink stars for the “treasure hunters”.
